Erda Gardens Educational Programs

Our educational programs, which are open to our members as well as to the general public, are an integral part of our goal to raise awareness of sustainable agricultural practices in the Albuquerque area.

Small farms and community supported agriculture (CSA) farms cannot continue to grow healthy produce, build communities or serve as a model of sustainable agriculture unless the public is educated about the critical importance of organic, sustainable food sources, and people people of all ages are trained in the science of organic, bio-regionally appropriate agricultural practices.

Adult Education Program

Our Adult Education Program has two components:

1) Generally, we hire multiple full-time student farmers to work at the farm as interns and learn farming techniques from a master bio-dynamic organic farmer. Our goal is that the interns will continue their work in organic farming and share their skills with the greater community. 2010 Update: We have no intern positions available this season. However, we are able to offer several work-trade positions. If you live locally, work-trade is a great way of getting involved and learning with a minimal weekly time commitment.

2) We also host an Adult Workshop Series which covers a wide variety of topics. Our workshops have covered different methods of organic gardening, edible landscaping, beekeeping, composting fundamentals and alternative nutrition movements. We also host a weekly biodynamic study group during the growing season.

Children's Education Program

We hold a summer Children's Workshop Series, which offers age-appropriate hands-on classes to Albuquerque youth, seeking to expose children to the idea of growing and eating healthy locally. This season we will be working on and enjoying the Children's Garden at our Blake location.

The 2010 Workshop Calendar is still under development, please check the Calendar of Events for updates. For more information about any of our educational programs, please contact us at 505-610-1538 or by email at info@erdagardens.org.
